AccuRIG vs Mixamo vs RigMaster for Unreal Engine 5
Last updated 2026-10-28 · Written by the Cosindra team — see the disclosure below.
AccuRIG and Mixamo are both free and both rig your character to a skeleton that is not UE5 Manny, so UE5 and Fab animation packs need an IK Retargeter pass before they play on it. RigMaster rigs the same humanoid mesh straight to the UE5 Manny skeleton, so Manny and Quinn animations play with no retargeting, at 15 credits a rig after a free start. Pick AccuRIG for a free local tool with strong hands, Mixamo for a free rig plus its animation library, and RigMaster when skipping the retarget step is worth a few credits.
Disclosure: we build RigMaster. AccuRIG (Reallusion) and Mixamo (Adobe) are good free tools, and this page says where each one wins. Competitor facts are as of October 2026.

What actually decides it: the skeleton
All three produce a usable humanoid rig from a mesh. The difference that costs time in Unreal is the skeleton. UE5’s templates, Lyra and most Fab animation packs are authored for Manny and Quinn. A character on any other skeleton plays them only after an IK Rig for each skeleton, a chain mapping and a retarget pose in the IK Retargeter, repeated for each new character or pack.
In StraySpark’s May 2026 test in UE 5.7, getting a first animation playing took about 10 minutes from AccuRIG and about 12 from Mixamo, both with that retargeting work included. RigMaster was not part of that test; its output needs no retarget step for Manny and Quinn animations.
AccuRIG: free, local and good with hands
AccuRIG is a free desktop auto-rigger from Reallusion with a strong reputation for hand and finger rigging, and it connects to ActorCore, iClone and Character Creator. If you want to rig offline, or you already buy motion from ActorCore, it is the natural pick.
For UE5: the rig is not Manny, so plan for a retarget setup, and users report characters importing at the wrong scale, so check the import scale on your first character.
Mixamo: free rig plus a free library
Mixamo’s strength is the library: rig a character and browse a large catalogue of motion-captured clips in the same place, free with an Adobe account. For prototypes and for characters that only ever play Mixamo clips, nothing else is as quick.
For UE5: the Mixamo rig needs retargeting for Manny and Quinn animations, FBX files often arrive at 1/100 scale, most clips move the hips rather than a root bone, and the service has had multi-day outages (June 2025, September 2025 and April 2026).
RigMaster: rigged to Manny, so nothing to retarget
RigMaster (ours) runs in the browser: upload a GLB or glTF humanoid up to 100 MB, place 18 joint markers, and download an FBX on the UE5 Manny skeleton with matching bone names, hierarchy and roll. Manny and Quinn animations, Epic’s locomotion sets, Lyra and Fab packs play on it as imported. A rig costs 15 credits with 5 free polish rounds after it, and Apply in UE5 brings it into the open editor through the free desktop app.
The honest limits: humanoids only; the markers are the input, so a careless marker gives a careless result; no animation library of its own; Starter includes one free download, and more downloads need a paid plan or a credit pack; the face rig is a paid-plan feature. For Unity, Blender and Godot it converts the finished rig on the server for free (a Mixamo-named FBX and a Godot humanoid glTF), but the Unreal Manny output is where it saves the most work.
Who should pick what
AccuRIG
You want a free offline rigger, care most about hands and fingers, or already use ActorCore or Character Creator.
Mixamo
You want a free rig and a free animation library in one place, and retargeting later is fine.
RigMaster
Your humanoid goes into UE5 and should play Manny, Quinn, Lyra and Fab animations with no IK Retargeter step.
Don’t take this page’s word for it — the galleries are real, unedited community output:
Rig your own character to Manny
Upload a humanoid GLB, place 18 markers and download an FBX that plays Manny and Quinn animations. A new account’s first 80 credits cover 5 rigs. No card.
Try RigMasterCommon questions
Is AccuRIG better than Mixamo?
For hands and offline use, many users prefer AccuRIG; for a free animation library next to the rig, Mixamo wins. For Unreal Engine 5 they share the same catch: neither rigs to the Manny skeleton, so UE5 animations need retargeting.
Does AccuRIG work with the UE5 Manny skeleton?
Not directly. AccuRIG rigs to its own skeleton, so Manny and Quinn animations play on an AccuRIG character after an IK Retargeter setup. A Manny-native rigger such as RigMaster skips that step.
Is AccuRIG free?
Yes, AccuRIG is free from Reallusion as of October 2026. ActorCore, Reallusion’s motion store, is a separate service.
Which one gets a UE5 character animated fastest?
In StraySpark’s May 2026 test in UE 5.7, AccuRIG took about 10 minutes and Mixamo about 12 to a first playing animation, both with retargeting. RigMaster was not in that test; its FBX plays Manny and Quinn animations on import, so the retarget step is gone.
Is Cosindra free, and what does RigMaster cost?
Yes, you can start free with no card. The Starter plan gives 30 credits every month, and eligible new accounts also get 50 one-time signup credits. A rig costs 15 credits and includes 5 free polish rounds, so the 80 credits of a new account's first month cover 5 rigs. Starter includes one free download, shared across products, and Apply in UE5 through the free desktop app is never download-locked. More downloads come with a paid plan (from $9.99 a month for 150 credits) or a one-time credit pack ($5 for 50 credits, $10 for 100 or $20 for 200), whose credits never expire and which opens downloads for 15 to 30 days. The face rig is a paid-plan feature.
