Tripo character to Unreal Engine 5: rig it for the Manny skeleton
By the Cosindra team · Updated October 29, 2026
Tripo rigs a humanoid in one step (Auto Rig, 20 credits in Tripo Studio) and exports FBX or GLB, but by default its skeleton uses Tripo's own bone names, so Manny and Quinn animations will not play on it as is. Tripo's API lists an Unreal Mannequin bone naming option on its newest rig model; its docs do not say which bones that skeleton has, so test it on SK_Mannequin before you rely on it. If it does not play Manny clips cleanly, there are two working routes: retarget Manny animations onto Tripo's rig with the IK Retargeter, or rig the unrigged mesh to the Manny skeleton with RigMaster (15 credits a rig), so Manny, Quinn and the Fab packs built for the UE5 mannequin play with no retargeting.
Tripo facts on this page come from Tripo's own pricing page and docs, read on October 28, 2026 and listed under Sources. We build RigMaster, so weigh what we say about it with that in mind.
What Tripo gives you
- Auto Rig in Tripo Studio: Tripo's pricing page lists it at 20 credits. Its feature page says it rigs humans, quadrupeds, stylized characters and mechanical creatures, takes OBJ, FBX or GLB uploads and exports FBX or GLB with the skeleton.
- Animation: Studio offers preset motions and text to motion. Through the API, a retarget applies up to 5 presets per request: 11 biped presets (idle, walk, run, dive, climb, jump, slash, shoot, hurt, fall, turn) on the newer rig models, and more than 90 on the v1.0 biped model.
- Rig types (API): biped, quadruped, hexapod, octopod, avian, serpentine and aquatic, plus others on the v3.0 rig model. A Rig Check task says whether a model can be rigged and recommends a type.
- Skeleton naming (API, bipeds only): tripo (the default), mixamo, actorcore, unity, unreal and vrm. Tripo describes unreal as Unreal Mannequin bone naming. Its docs say the v3.0 rig model supports the actorcore, unity, unreal and vrm conventions and must be requested explicitly; the default rig model is v1.0.
- API inputs: GLB, FBX, OBJ or STL up to 150 MB.
- Plans: Tripo's pricing page lists Rigging and Animation on every plan, including Free, which has 200 credits a month with public models for non-commercial use and limited exports. The DCC Bridge, which covers Unreal, starts on Pro.
Why a Tripo rig does not play Manny animations as is
An Unreal animation belongs to a skeleton asset: its bone names, hierarchy and rest orientations. The UE5 Manny skeleton has 89 bones, including five spine bones, two neck bones, paired twist bones on every limb, finger metacarpals and IK helper bones. Tripo's default naming and its Mixamo option are different skeletons as far as Unreal is concerned, so Manny clips need retargeting onto them.
The unreal naming option is the closest Tripo gets. Bone names are only part of compatibility, though: Manny animations also expect Manny's hierarchy and rest orientations, and its twist bones are what keep forearms from twisting like a candy wrapper. Tripo's docs do not list the bones that option produces, and we have not run it. Test it: import the FBX choosing the project's SK_Mannequin as the skeleton and play a Manny clip. If the importer will not use that skeleton or the limbs twist, use one of the routes below.
Route 1: keep the Tripo rig and retarget in UE5
- In Tripo, rig the character, add the presets you want and export FBX.
- Import the FBX into UE5 and let the importer create a new skeleton. Check the height against the default mannequin.
- Create an IK Rig for the Tripo skeleton: retarget root on the hips, chains for the spine, head, both arms and both legs.
- Create an IK Retargeter from the UE5 mannequin's IK Rig to the Tripo one, fix the retarget pose until the arms match, and preview a clip.
- Batch-retarget the Manny animations you need into their own folder. Repeat for every new pack you adopt.
Route 2: rig the Tripo mesh to the Manny skeleton with RigMaster
- In Tripo, generate the character in an A-pose (Tripo's docs suggest asking for an A-pose or T-pose in the prompt). Finish every mesh edit, then download the textured model as GLB without a rig.
- Upload the GLB to RigMaster. It takes GLB or glTF files up to 100 MB.
- Place the 18 joint markers. They are the main input the fitter uses, so put each one on the real joint.
- Rig it for 15 credits. Each rig includes 5 free polish rounds, so you can move a marker and run it again.
- Download the FBX and import it into UE5, choosing the project's SK_Mannequin as the skeleton. Assign any Manny or Quinn animation and press play.
- Optional: need the same character in Unity or Godot too? The finished rig converts free to a Mixamo-named FBX or a Godot humanoid glTF.
Fingers and face
- Fingers: Tripo's docs do not say whether its biped rig has finger bones. Whatever rigs it, a hand can only bend fingers the mesh separates; fused fingers move as one block.
- In RigMaster you pick 5, 4 or 3 fingers or Mitten for each hand, and a hand whose fingers are fused rigs as a mitten that bends at the wrist.
- Face: Tripo's rigging and animation pages we read do not describe a face rig. RigMaster's face rig, on paid plans, adds a jaw, plus eyes and eyelids where the mesh has eyeballs and lids; with painted eyes you get the jaw.
Clean up the Tripo mesh first
- Edit before you rig: Tripo's docs say segmentation, mesh completion, Smart LowPoly and remeshing do not keep bones, skin weights or animation. Do every mesh edit first, then rig.
- Triangle count: Tripo has Retopology and Smart LowPoly for a lighter mesh. RigMaster accepts dense meshes and offers a free reduction in the page for very dense ones, keeping your original.
- Scale: RigMaster exports in centimetres at the mannequin's height by default (an option keeps your model's own height), so UE's default import scale of 1.0 is right. For Tripo's own rig, compare the import with the mannequin and fix the scale before you retarget.
- Rotation: the character should face forward, along glTF's +Z. A sideways GLB is quickest to fix in Blender: rotate, apply rotation, export.
- Non-manifold and loose parts: Tripo's rigging guidelines warn against fused legs and too many accessories. Repair holes and separate fused parts in Blender; RigMaster binds each loose piece (hair, a hat) rigidly to the bone it touches.
- Compression: export without meshopt compression. RigMaster refuses meshopt GLBs with a message saying so; Draco is fine.
Tripo rig, Unreal naming, retargeting or RigMaster: compared
| Tripo rig + IK Retargeter | Tripo Unreal naming (API) | RigMaster | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skeleton in UE5 | Tripo names (or Mixamo names) | Unreal Mannequin names, per Tripo's docs | UE5 Manny, 89 bones |
| Manny, Quinn and Fab mannequin packs | Play after retargeting each set | Not tested by us; check on SK_Mannequin | Play directly |
| Animations included | Tripo presets and text to motion | Tripo presets | No library of its own; Manny packs and MotionSmith motions play on it |
| Creatures | Quadruped, hexapod, avian, serpentine and more | Naming options apply to bipeds only | No, humanoids only |
| Where you run it | Tripo Studio or API, then UE5 | Tripo API, rig model v3.0 | Browser, then UE5 |
| Cost | Auto Rig 20 credits, plus your time | Tripo API credits | 15 credits a rig, 5 polish rounds included |
Honest limits
- RigMaster rigs humanoids only. Tripo rigs far more body types; for a creature, a quadruped or a snake, use Tripo's rig or a hand rig in Blender.
- RigMaster has no animation library of its own; Manny packs and MotionSmith motions play on its rig. If Tripo's presets are what you want, keep Tripo's rig.
- Neither tool repairs bad input. Fused limbs, holes and a mid-pose character rig badly in Tripo and in RigMaster.
- Auto-rigged AI meshes suit prototypes, NPCs and jams. A hero character close to the camera may still want weight cleanup by hand.
- If you script Tripo through its API: Tripo API V2 stops accepting requests on October 31, 2026 (16:00 UTC). The rig options above are from the V3 docs.
- Tripo's features and prices change. The facts here are from its pages on the date above.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a Tripo character in Unreal Engine 5?
Yes. Tripo exports FBX and GLB with the skeleton included, and a rigged Tripo character imports into UE5 as a skeletal mesh that plays Tripo's clips. To play Manny and Quinn animations, retarget them onto Tripo's skeleton, test Tripo's Unreal naming option, or rig the mesh to the Manny skeleton.
Does Tripo export to the UE5 Manny skeleton?
Tripo's API lists an unreal option, described as Unreal Mannequin bone naming, on its v3.0 rig model for bipeds. The default is Tripo's own naming. Tripo's docs do not list which bones the unreal option produces, so import it onto SK_Mannequin and play a Manny clip to find out.
Is Tripo rigging free?
Tripo's pricing page lists Auto Rig at 20 credits and Rigging and Animation on every plan, including Free, which has 200 credits a month. Free plan models are public and for non-commercial use, so a game you sell needs a paid plan (Tripo pricing page, October 28, 2026).
Tripo or Meshy for a UE5 character?
For the UE5 step it matters less than it seems. Both rig humanoids and export FBX and GLB, and neither defaults to the Manny skeleton. Meshy rigs for 0 credits in its web app and has 600+ preset motions; Tripo's Auto Rig costs 20 credits and its API offers more creature rig types and an Unreal Mannequin naming option. If your animations are Manny packs, the deciding step is the same either way: retarget, or rig the mesh to Manny.
Can RigMaster rig a Tripo creature?
No. RigMaster is humanoid only. Tripo's rig types include quadruped, hexapod, octopod, avian, serpentine and aquatic; for a creature in Unreal, use Tripo's rig or rig it by hand in Blender.
Is Cosindra free, and what does RigMaster cost?
Yes, you can start free with no card. The Starter plan gives 30 credits every month, and eligible new accounts also get 50 one-time signup credits. A rig costs 15 credits and includes 5 free polish rounds, so the 80 credits of a new account's first month cover 5 rigs. Starter includes one free download, shared across products, and Apply in UE5 through the free desktop app is never download-locked. More downloads come with a paid plan (from $9.99 a month for 150 credits) or a one-time credit pack ($5 for 50 credits, $10 for 100 or $20 for 200), whose credits never expire and which opens downloads for 15 to 30 days. The face rig is a paid-plan feature.
