MotionSmith: character animation from one sentence

Describe a motion and get four takes to choose from. Each one plays on the Unreal Engine 5 Manny skeleton with root motion and planted feet, and on your own character right next to it, so you see how it will look in your game before you download anything.

Start from the gallery of ready-made motions, or bring a character rigged in RigMaster and its takes are ready to import as they are.

How it works

  1. Describe it. One sentence about how the character moves, and a length of 3, 4 or 6 seconds.
  2. Pick a take. Compare four takes on the base body and on your character; the timeline shows where each foot is planted.
  3. Take it into your engine. An FBX for Unreal with root motion, a GLB for Blender and Godot, or a BVH.

Frequently asked questions

Which engines and tools does it export to?

Unreal Engine 5 as an FBX on the Manny skeleton, with root motion and the IK bones set. Blender and Godot as a GLB. The motion data as a BVH on its SOMA-77 skeleton. Unity comes later.

Can I use my own character?

Yes. Upload a GLB, glTF, VRM or FBX and every take plays on it next to the base body. MotionSmith tells you how well its skeleton fits; a character without a usable skeleton can be rigged in RigMaster.

What does it cost?

Watching the gallery is free. A generation is 5 credits for all 4 takes, and one that fails is refunded automatically. Downloads are included in paid plans; on Starter, the first of your generations you download is free.

Who owns the motions?

You do. The motions are made by NVIDIA Kimodo, released under the NVIDIA Open Model License, which allows commercial use.

How long does a generation take?

About 30 seconds while a GPU is running. If none is, your prompt starts one first, which takes up to 3 minutes, and the page shows the wait. When others are generating, yours waits its turn and the page shows its place in line. You can leave the page; your motions wait for you.

How long are my motions kept?

A motion you generate is kept for 24 hours. Save it to keep it in your account for good; your account page lists it under MotionSmith. We email you a few hours before an unsaved one is deleted. The files you download are yours to keep.

What should I write?

One character's body motion, in English, up to 300 characters: for example, "A tired soldier limps forward, favouring the left leg". Choose 3, 4 or 6 seconds.
